User devices provide the user with a way by which network and server services may be accessed. These devices are quite varied, and can be desktops, laptops, tablets, thin clients, phones, PDAs, smart-phones, and web browsers.
Device Hardware – Similar to the server devices layer, the base layer of the user devices layer consists of the physical equipment necessary to provide power, connectivity, and support for an operating system. ISI recommends, resells, and installs device hardware manufactured by HP, Cisco, and HTC.
Device OS – The operating system rests on top of the device hardware and enables logical interaction with the rest of the network through software. Again, this layer may be separated into smaller sub-layers should virtualization be implemented. ISI recommends, resells, and installs Microsoft operating systems for desktops, laptops, tablets, PDAs, and smart-phones.
Device Applications – This layer provides the actual programs that users interface with within the business processes of the organization. The method of presentation to the user can be quite varied as the number of permutations between user devices, operating systems, and applications is quite large, so some degree of interpretation is required when evaluating what is and is not a device application. It must also be noted that applications can be virtualized across devices and operating systems which again blurs this category to some extent. ISI recommends, resells, and installs Microsoft device applications such as Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office Accounting, and Business Contact Manager.
